Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/14/24) The Dominican University New York men's soccer team dropped a 4-2 deicision to the visiting Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference game today played at O'Brien Field.
The Spartans improve to 3-0 overall, while the Chargers fall to 0-3 on the season.
STAC scored two goals in the first half for the early advantage, but the Chargers recorded a goal at the 47:33 mark when freshman midfielder Matheus Carneiro Xavier netted his first career goal off the cross into the box by Gaetan Mainaud to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Mainaud tied the game in the 51st minute of play on a shot from outside box to make the score 2-2.
St. Thomas Aquinas added goals in the 66th and 74th minutes for the eventual 4-2 win.
Senior keeper Joshua Kaandorp made a season high nine saves in the loss.
Mainaud finished the game with one goal and one assist for the Chargers.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host the University of Bridgeport in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener scheduled for 3:30pm on O'Brien Field.
