Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/21/24) The Dominican University New York men's soccer team fell to the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University this afternoon in conference action on O'Brien Field.
The Rams entered today's game as the #4 ranked team in the NCAA DII United Soccer Coaches Association East Region Poll and improve to 5-0-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Chargers fall to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
John Nelson made three saves and recorded his fifth win of the season in goal for the Rams. DU keeper Joshua Kaandorp made five saves but suffered the loss.
The Rams took a 2-0 first half lead after Mohamed Elhendaway and Gabe Paz each scored. Liam Stijelja picked up an assist on the first goal.
Late in the second half in the 83rd minute, Emilson Bitri took a pass from Tj Hibsman and scored to give the Rams the 3-0 lead.
Dominican outshot the Rams 8-6 in the first half but TJU outshot Dominican in the second half 9-2 and 15-10 for the game.
Matheus Carneiro Xavier led the Chargers in shots with three while Oscar Chazalet took two shots.
The Chargers return to action next Wednesday when they host non-conference opponent the College of Staten Island at 3:30 PM on O'Brien Field.
