CHAZALET NETS LATE GOAL TO LIFT MEN'S SOCCER OVER COUGARS

Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/8/24) The Dominican University New York men's soccer team edged the Cougars of Caldwell University this afternoon in CACC action on O'Brien Field.

Oscar Chazalet netted the game winning goal with 16 ticks left in the game to lift the Chargers over the Cougars 2-1. 

The Chargers improve to 2-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play after the win. The Cougars fall to 4-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the CACC, 

Justin Talbot made two saves for CU but suffered the loss. Joshua Kaandorp made nine saves and earned his first win of the season in goal for the Chargers.

Both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half with the Cougars outshooting the Chargers 11-1 in the opening frame. 

The Chargers took the lead at the 47:33 mark when Eduardo Moreno Silva scored the first goal of the game to put DU on top. Oscar Chazalet picked up the assist on the goal. 

In the 54th minute, Cleff Alexis scored the tying goal after dribbling into the box and connecting for the goal.

The Game remained tied until less than one minute to play. The ball was played out of the DU defensive end and Chazalet took control of the ball over midfield. The Caldwell keeper came out of goal to defend but Chazalet made a move to get around the keeper and scored on a shot 35 yards out into the empty net for the game winner with 16 seconds left. 

The Chargers return to action on the road this Saturday when they visit Chestnut Hill College for a CACC match up at 1:30 PM.
