
LI RIVERA WINS 110M HURDLES AT QUEENS KNIGHTS OPENER
Flushing, N.Y. (4/12/24) The Dominican University New York men's track and field team took part in the Queens College Knight Spring Opener held today on the campus of Queens College.
Sophomore Jeffery Li Rivera (Suffern, N.Y.) won the 110m hurdle event with a time of 17.27.
As a team, the Chargers compiled second place finishes in the 400m dash, 800m run, 400m hurdles, the 4x100m relay and the long jump event.
RESULTS
- Li Rivera won the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.27.
- In the 400m dash, sophomore Samuel Fileen (Monroe, N.Y.) had the high finish of second place with a time of 52.20. Thiea Shea (Kingston, Jamaica) took third place with a time of 52.47 and Delon Smith (Bronx, N.Y.) finished in sixth place with a time of 54.84. Freshman Sam Samala (Nanuet, N.Y.) ran a time of 55.43 to finish in 10th place, with David Castro (Nyack, N.Y.) finishing in 11th place (55.44), Connor Grable (Laurelton, N.Y.) taking 13th place (55.65), Steven Smith (Yonkers, N.Y.) finishing in 18th place (58.02) and Jameel Richardson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) taking 27th place (1:03.85).
- The 800m run saw Jose Grullon (San Juan, Puerto Rico) taking second place with a time of 2:03.61. Sophomore Prince Copeland (Haverstraw, N.Y.) took third place with a time of 2:07.47, while Aidan Nelson (Tappan, N.Y.) ran a time of 2:13.63 to finish in eighth place. Jehu Ermilus (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took 11th place with a time of 2:17.11 and D. Smith finished in 20th place (2:49.90).
- A second place finish also went to Nate Thomas (Chicago, Ill.) in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.37. Richardson took third place with a time of 1:08.60.
- The 4x100m relay team of Shea, Fileen, Copeland and Castro took second place with a time of 3:36.54. The team of Nelson, Dertinger, Grullon and Ermilus finished in fourth place with a time of 3:56.09 and the team of Thomas, Li Rivera, Grable and Samala ran a time of 3:59.20 to finish in fifth place.
- The long jump saw Kenney Lauredent (Pomona, N.Y.) take second place with a jump of 6.14m (20' 1.75"). Freshman Nicalis Williams (Cohoes, N.Y.) finished in sixth place with a jump of 5.86m (19' 2.75") and Thomas took ninth place (5.66m-18' 7"). Acosta had a jump of 5.60m (18' 4.5") to take 10th place, while Li Rivera finished in 11th place with a jump of 5.56m (18' 3").
- Lauredent had a third place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 12.35m (40' 6.25"). Williams finished in fifth place (12.10m - 39' 8.5") and Thomas took 11th place with a jump of 10.67m (35' 0.25") to finish in 11th place.
- Brian Thompson (North Bergen, N.J.) took fifth place in the 100m dash finals with a time of 11.53. The preliminary heats of the event saw Thompson aslo finish fifth with Dariel Suarez (North Bergen, N.J.) taking 14th place (11.74), Amani Acosta (Warwick, N.Y.) took 18th place (12.44) and Aidan Mallon (Bohemia, N.Y.) finished in 25th place with a time of 13.18.
- Senior Lawrence Ribeiro (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) took seventh place in the shot put event with a throw of 9.75m (32' 0").
- In the 200m dash, Thompson took eighth place with a time of 24.17. Suarez finished in 12th place with a time of 24.73, while D. Smith ran a time of 24.98 to finish in 15th place. Mallon finished in 32nd place with a time of 27.97.
- Nelson took eighth place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:46.89, while Copeland finished in 10th place with a time of 4:52.64 and Ermilus took 14th place with a time of 5:37.24.
- Zachary Dertinger (Livingston Manor, N.Y.) competed in the 3000m run and finished in 10th place with a time of 10:55.76.
