VOLLEYBALL DROPS REGULAR SEASON FINALE TO REDHAWKS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/13/24) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team dropped their regular season finale in conference action to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University this afternoon on Coach Baxter Court.
With the loss, the Chargers fall to 11-12 overall and 3-3 in the ECC. RWU improves to 8-15 overall and 3-3 in the ECC.
In the first three sets, each team scored over 20 points. The Chargers outlasted the Redhawks 28-26 in the opening set but RWU bounced back with a 27-25 win in the second set.
DU held a 13-9 lead in the third set and the Redhawks used a 6-1 run to take the lead. Both teams went back and fourth down the stretch and the Chargers outlasted RWU 25-23 to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Redhawks rolled in the fourth set on their way to a 25-10 victory to force a fifth and final set.
The Redhawks jumped out to an early lead in the fifth and decisive set and never looked back on their way to the 15-12 win and secured the 3-2 match victory.
Phinehas Wiley (Cedarburg, Wisc.) led the way for the Chargers with 18 kills and 19.5 points Luke Koster (Geneva, Ill.) recorded a match high 44 assists and also recorded 15 digs in the loss.
Ayden Shaw (Centennial, Colo.) finished with 13 kills and 19.5 points scored. Shaw also recorded a team-high seven total blocks. Gavin Tate (Appleton, Wisc.) added eight kills, 11.5 points, and five total blocks. Tyler Roukey (Hudson, Ohio) recorded a team-high 19 digs.
The Redhawks were led by Griffin Monrad who recorded 19 kills and Paul Fillion with 18 kills. Moises Jimenez recorded a match high 24 digs while Riley Green added 45 assists.
The Chargers return to action next Saturday for the ECC semifinals held at Dominican University in the Hennessy Center.
