
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL OPENS 2025 CAMPAIGN WITH A WIN OVER BARRY UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/16/25) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team opened the 2025 campaign with a non-conference victory over Barry University on Coach Baxter Court.
The Buccaneers fall to 3-2 overall while the Chargers improve to 1-0.
Dominican won a hard fought first set where they fell behind early but rallied and outscored the Buccaneers 14-8 down stretch to secure the 25-23 win and 1-0 advantage.
BU got off to a quick start in the second set, but the Chargers battled and took a 14-13 lead and never looked back on their way to a 25-22 victory for a 2-0 match lead.
Dominican opened the third set strong, jumping out to a quick 16-8 lead. The Buccaneers went on an 11-5 run to cut the DU lead to four points. Dominican completed the sweep with four unanswered points for the 25-17 win in the third set.
Sophomore Ayden Shaw scored a team-high 15 points while also recording a team-high 12 kills and added two block assists and two service aces.
Sophomore Gavin Tate added nine kills, one service ace, and on block assist for 10.5 points. Phillip Kurisko added five kills while Tommaso Falchi and freshman setter Jamel Toste each recorded four kills. Toste also had a match-high 30 assists.
Freshman Daniel Malcolm added three kills and libero Tyler Roukey added a team-high six digs.
The Buccaneers were led by Colton Beres who finished with eight kills and seven digs while Philip Tein added seven kills. Tristan Blake recorded a team-high 22 assists and three service aces. Elias Fuhrer and Zachary Jabr each finished with three block assists.
The Chargers return to action on Friday, January 24th when they visit Daemen University.
