CHARGERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER OVER ROBERTS WESLEYAN

Rochester, N.Y. (3/1/25) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team swept a doubleheader with the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University today at the Voller Athletic Center in Rochester, N.Y.

The Chargers and the Redhawks opened the day with an East Coast Conference (ECC) contest and then played a non-conference match in the second match up. 

Dominican opened the doubleheader with a 3-1 victory in the ECC match and followed that up with a five set 3-2 victory.

After the sweep, the Chargers improve to 5-12 overall and 2-0 in the ECC. 

Match One: The Chargers opened the doubleheader with a 3-1 victory in the ECC match.

The Chargers fell behind in the match after a 25-21 loss. Dominican answered with three straight victories 25-20, 25-23, and 25-15 to close out the win in four sets. 

Ayden Shaw and Blake Krapf combined for 18 kills with nine each. Shaw also picked up six digs, three block assists, and two service aces. Krapf added seven digs and three service aces. 

Tommaso Falchi recorded seven kills, six digs, and a team-high five block assists. Daniel Malcolm finished with six total blocks, three solo blocks and three block assists. Gavin Tate picked up eight digs and four total blocks. 

Jamel Toste had a team-high 29 assists and a team-high 10 digs. 

Match Two: The Chargers closed out the doubleheader with a 3-2 victory to complete the sweep. 

Sebastian Rodriguez led the way in match two with 12 kills while also recording eight digs, two total blocks, and one service ace. 

Hunter Paio and Alejandro Miranda combined for 14 kills with seven each. Paio also finished with five total blocks with two solo and three block assists. 

Dennis Ancheta recorded a team-high 13 digs while Jaiden Wilcox recorded a team-high 43 assists and 11 digs. 

Dominican opened match two with a 25-23 edge for the 1-0 lead. RWU followed with a 27-25 victory in the second set but Dominican answered with a 26-24 win in the third set and led 2-1. 

The Redhawks forced a fifth and final set after taking the fourth 25-21. Dominican closed out the five set match with a back and forth 15-12 victory.

The Chargers return to action on Friday when they visit FDU.
