
CHARGERS FALL TO FDU IN FIVE SETS
Orangeburg, (N.Y.) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team fell in non-conference action to the Knights of FDU in five sets.
FDU completes the season sweep over the Chargers after they earned a 3-0 sweep on Friday.
Dominican falls to 5-14 overall while the Knights improve to 7-5.
The Chargers opened the first set scoring the first five points and later extended to a 13-6 lead. Dominican never lost the lead from there on their way to the 25-20 win.
FDU bounced back with consecutive victories in the second and third sets to take the 2-1 advantage.
Dominican held an 11-10 lead in the fourth set and used a 14-7 run to tie the match and force a fifth and decisive set.
Dominican jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth and FDU used a 7-3 run to tie DU at 8-8. Both teams went back and forth down the stretch and FDU scored the last two points to win the fifth set 16-14 and take the match 3-2.
Blake Krapf led the way for the Chargers with 20 kills and finished with 22.5 points after also adding one service ace and three block assists. Ayden Shaw finished with 10 kills and recorded six figs.
Tyler Roukey also added six digs while Jamel Toste recorded a team-high 38 assists. Toste and Daniel Malcolm each recorded a team-high three service aces. Malcolm also picked up one solo block and a team-high five block assists.
The Chargers return to action this Sunday, March 16th when they host the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College for an ECC match up at 12:00 PM on Coach Baxter Court.
