SOFTBALL UPENDS CONCORDIA COLLEGE
Bronxville, NY (4/26/11) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked fifth in the NCAA East Region, upended Concordia College, 8-6 in ten innings and 1-0, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games played at Clipper Field. With the sweep Dominican improves to 27-15 overall and 17-7 in conference play, while Concordia stands at 18-9 overall and 13-3 in the CACC.

With the sweep Dominican improves to 27-15 overall and 17-7 in conference play, while Concordia stands at 18-9 overall and 13-3 in the CACC.
Game One: Dominican took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning as Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) got a one out double to right field and advanced to third on the single up-the-middle by Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA). An RBI infield single off the bat of Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) platted Plante and Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Back-to-back walks issued to left fielder Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) and third basemen Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) brought home two more runs.
The Clippers answered back with three runs in the bottom stanza to tie the score at 3-all and added two runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 edge. DC re-tied the score at 5-5 in the top of the sixth as Plante delivered a two run single up-the-middle.
The game remained tied until the ninth inning when the Lady Chargers as Martinez hit a two out single to right center field to score Berzak, who was placed on second to start the inninng due to the international tie-breaker rule. Concordia answered back with a run in their half of the ninth to make the score 6-6.
In the eleventh inning, Plante started things off with an RBI triple to right center field as Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) was placed at second base and Berzak followed with an RBI single to right field to give the Lady Chargers an 8-6 lead. A 1-2-3 bottom of the eleventh secured the 8-6 victory.
Plante went 4-6 with three RBIs and two runs, while Martinez went 3-5 with two runs scored.
Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) improved to 16-6 on the season in the complete game victory, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits and eight strikeouts.
Game Two: The nightcap was scoreless until Dominican struck for a run in the top half of the sixth inning as Jeppson hit a one out double to left field and moved to the third on a fielding error which allowed Plante to reach base. An RBI sacrifice fly ball to center field off the bat of Berzak brought in Jeppson and gave DC the eventual 1-0 victory.
Right-handed hurler Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) got the complete game shut out victory to now stand at 11-7 on the season. She allowed eight hits and recorded five strikeouts in the game.
