# 6 WOMEN'S SOFTBALL SPLIT WITH # 3 MOLLY COLLEGE TO END REGULAR SEASON
Orangeburg, NY (5/1/11) Left fielder Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) pushed a bunt down the first base line which allowed Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) to score in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Lady Chargers a 3-2 victory in game two of a non-conference double-header with the visiting Lions of Molloy College. In game one, Molloy posted a 5-3 victory to end regular season play for Dominican today at the DC Softball Field.
Orangeburg, NY (5/1/11) Left fielder Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) pushed a bunt down the first base line which allowed Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) to score in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Lady Chargers a 3-2 victory in game two of a non-conference double-header with the visiting Lions of Molloy College. In game one, Molloy posted a 5-3 victory to end regular season play for Dominican today at the DC Softball Field.
Game One: Molloy jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, drawing a bases loaded walk and followed with two consecutive hits. Dominican got a run back in the bottom stanza as freshman first basemen Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) belted a home run over the right field fence to cut the deficit to 5-1.
The Lady Chargers put another run on the board in the fifth inning as Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) delivered an RBI double down the left field line to make the score 5-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Martinez hit a one out single through the left side, advanced to second on the walk issued to Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) and moved to third on a fly ball out. Martinez scored on a passed ball for the final 5-3 score.
Junior Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss (11-8), alllowing five runs on seven hits and recording four strikeouts.
Martinez had two hits in game one to led the Lady Chargers.
Game Two: The Lions attacked first in game two with a run in the first inning for the 1-0 lead. DC tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as designated player Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) drew a walk to start the inning. Melissa Messina (Hillsdale, NJ) came in to run for Wassmann and advanced to second on the sacrifice bunt off the bat of Martinez. A wild pitch moved her to third base and she scored on the infield bunt hit from Kerscher to tie the score at 1-1.
After seven innings of play, the score remained 1-1 and forced the game into extra innings with the international tie-breaker rule being used. Molloy took a 3-2 lead in the top half of the eighth, but Dominican rallied in the bottom stanza with a run as Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) was placed at second base to start the inning and moved to third on a wild pitch. A deep infield single off the bat of Childers brought her home and re-tied the score at 2-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, Corrao started at second base and moved to third on the sacrifice bunt by Wassmann. Martinez's bunt single down the first base line allowed Corrao to score and give the Lady Chargers the 3-2 victory.
Childers got the win to improve to 17-6 on the season in the complete game win.
With the split Dominican ends the regular season with a 30-16 record and will compete in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament to be played May 5th-May 7th at Georgian Court University.
