WOMEN'S SOFTBALL ADVANCE TO CACC CHAMPIONSHIP
Lakewood, NJ (5/6/11) The third-seeded Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship after defeating the top seed and host, Georgian Court University, 6-2, this afternoon. With the win DC improves to 33-16 overall and 3-0 in tournament play and will face the winner of the GCU/Caldwell contest tomorrow at 1pm.

With the win DC improves to 33-16 overall and 3-0 in tournament play and will face the winner of the GCU/Caldwell contest tomorrow at 1pm.
Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) led off the game with a double to left field and moved to third on the infield single hit by Julie Plante (Swansea, MA). Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) laid down a sacrifice bunt that allowed Jeppson to score and Berzak reached base on a GCU error to put runners on the corner with no outs. A one out sacrifice fly ball off the bat of desginated player, Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) brought home Plante and gave the Lady Chargers a 2-0 lead.
The Lions got a run back in the bottom stanza, but DC reclaimed a two run lead in the top of the second as Brielle Kershcer (Staten Island, NY) led off the inning with a single to left field and moved to second on the sacrifice bunt by Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA). A triple to right field from pitcher Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) allowed Kerscher to score and regain a 3-1 advantage.
A two out single to right field in the fourth inning by Plante platted Childers and increased the Dominican lead to 4-1. DC added two more runs in the sixth on the two run single to center field by Jeppson to make the score 6-1. GCU put a run on the board in the bottom stanza for the final 6-2 score.
Jeppson, Plante and Coles all had two hits a-piece in the victory.
Left-handed hurler Childers improved to 20-6 on the season with the complete game victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and six strikeouts.
DC will take on the winner of the # 5 Caldwell College/# 1 Georgian Court University eliminiation game tomorrow at 1pm at GCU. Game 15 if necessary will follow at 3pm.
