SOFTBALL FALLS TO MERCYHURST IN GAME ONE OF SCHEDULED DH
Winter Haven, Fla. (3/3/24) The Dominican University New York softball team returned to action from Winter Haven, Fla. for two games this afternoon.
The Lady Chargers fell in their first game of the day to Mercyhurst University and game two was halted because of weather.
Game One: The Lady Chargers fell behind 3-0 early after a first inning rally by Mercyhurst. The game remained 3-0 until the fourth inning when Emily Angulo (Wilmington, Calif.) singled in two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Lady Chargers rallied in the top of the fifth inning and Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) gave DU the lead after a two-RBI single.
Mercyhurst rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to regain the lead. Alexandra Acosta-Reyes tied the score with an RBI-single and then Eliza Reynolds gave Mercyhurst the lead back with a two-RBI double and the score would remain for the rest of the game.
Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) and Emily Null (Menifee, Calif.) split time in the circle for the Lady Chargers. Bailey Cannon recorded the win for Mercyhurst.
Dominican now holds an overall record of 1-2.
Game Two was halted in the third inning in a scoreless tie due to weather. A makeup date and time have not been determined.
