Jan Phyl Village, Fla. (3/6/24) The Dominican University New York softball team dropped a pair of non-conferene games to Queens College and Minnesota State University-Mankato today at THE Spring Games.
Queens defeated the Lady Chargers, 9-3, while Mavericks took home a 7-0 win in game two.
Dominican now stands at 1-6 on the season.
Game One: The Knights struck for four runs in the top of the first inning and held a 6-0 advantage through five innings. The Lady Chargers got on the board in their half of the sixth inning as designated player Jalaeya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.) led off the inning with a single through the right side and third basemen Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) followed with a single to right center field. Following an infield single by Emily Angulo (Wilmington, Calif.), right fielder Rosemary Espinoza (Beaumont, Calif.) delivered a two-run single to right center field and Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.) then reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Angulo to score and cut the lead to 6-3.
QC added three more runs in the top of the ninth inning for the final 9-3 win.
Ridge and shortstop Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) both went 3-4 in the game, with Espinoza finishing with two RBI.
Starter Emily Null (Menifee, Calif.) suffered the loss in two innings of work.
Game Two: Minnesota State got on the board in the bottom of the second frame and added a run in the fourth and fifth innings to claim a 4-0 lead. A four-run bottom of the sixth inning extended the lead to the evenutal 7-0 victory.
Designated player Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) had the lone Lady Charger hit.
Starter Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) suffered the complete game loss.
The Lady Chargers have an off day tomorrow and is scheduled to return to action at THE Spring Games on Friday when they face Glenville State and St. Michael's College.
