Winter Haven, Fla. (3/9/24) The Dominican University New York softball team concluded play today at THE Spring Games with a non-conference split against McKendree University and Salem University.
Dominican fell to the Bearcats 5-0, but picked up an 8-4 victory against the Tigers.
Game One: McKendree scored a run in the first and added two runs in the fourth and fifth stanza to increase the lead to 5-0.
Centerfielder Emma Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) went 2-4 in the loss, while Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.), Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.), Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) and Emily Angulo (Wilmington, Calif.) had the other Lady Charger hits.
Starter Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) took the loss in four and 1/3 innings. Emily Null (Menifee, Calif.) closed out the final 2 and 2/3 innings.
Game Two: Salem led 1-0 after one inning of play, but the Lady Chargers tied the score in the top of the second as shortstop Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) drew a bases loaded walk.
The Lady Charger offense exploded for seven run in their half of the third inning with Ridge starting things off with an RBI single. Jalaeya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.) brought home a run on a sacrifice fly ball and Lopez followed with an RBI single. Two batters later, Kaszovitz drew another bases loaded walk and first basemen Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) followed with a two-run single. Salcido batted next and hit a run-scoring infield single for an 8-1 lead.
Salem scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for the final 8-4 Lady Charger win.
Walker went 3-3 with two RBI and one run scored in the win, while Ridge went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Freshman Null collected the win.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 15th when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College.
