Sparkill, N.Y. (3/15/24) The Dominican University New York softball team fell in non-conference action to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 8-2 and 6-0, in games played today at Spartan Field.
The Lady Chargers fall to 2-11 on the season, while the Spartans improve to 7-11 overall.
Game One: The Lady Chargers opened the contest with a run in their opening at-bat as centerfielder Emma Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) led off the game with a solo home run to centerfield for the early lead.
The Spartans rallied with a four-run second inning and tacked on two more in the third to build a 6-1 lead. Shortstop Choloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) cut the lead to 6-2 as she doubled home Kaszovitz in the top of the fifth.
STAC added two more runs in the sixth to pick up the 8-2 victory.
McIntosh went 2-4 in the game with an RBI, while Kaszovitz went 1-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Starter Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) suffered the loss.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Spartans scored two runs on three hits.
STAC added one run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and one in the sixth en route to the 6-0 win.
Rightfielder Rosemary Espinoza (Beaumont, Calif.) went 2-3 in the game.
Lady Charger Emily Null (Menifee, Calif.) went the distance in the loss.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow when they open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play as they host Thomas Jefferson University on the DU Softball Field. Game one is slated to start at 12pm.
