Bridgeport, Conn. (3/19/24) The Dominican University New York Softball team dropped a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games to host, the University of Bridgeport, 12-7 and 9-3 played today at Seaside Park.
Following the games, the Lady Chargers now stand at 3-14 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican scored three runs in the top of the second inning for an early lead. Left fielder Emily Angulo (Wilmington, Calif.) hit an RBI single to right field and three batters later, shortstop Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) followed with a two-run single to centerfield for a 3-0 advantage.
UB rallied with a five-run bottom of the second for a 5-3 lead, but the Lady Chargers tacked on four more runs in fifth inning to regain the lead. Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) hit a single to right field to plate a run and back-to-back singles from Angulo and Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.) made the score 6-5. Graduate student Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) drew a bases loaded walk to lift Dominican to a 7-6 lead.
Bridgeport once again rallied, this time with seven runs on six hits (including a grand slam) in their half of the fifth to claim a 12-7 lead and eventual win.
Angulo went 3-4 in the game with two RBI and two runs scored.
McIntosh, Ridge and Lopez had two hits each in the loss.
Pitcher Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) suffered the complete game loss and collected seven strikeouts.
Game Two: The nightcap saw the Purple Knights score runs in the first four innings for a 9-0 lead.
The Lady Chargers scored three runs in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring single to left field off the bat of Lopez and three batter laters Walker singled home two runs for the final 9-3 score.
Walker and Jalaeya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.) had two hits a-piece in the loss.
Starter Emily Null (Menifee, Calif.) took the loss.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Pace University.
