Pleasantville, N.Y. (3/22/24) The Dominican University new York softball team lost two non-conference games to host Pace University, 6-0 and 5-4 in eight innings, in games played today at the Pace Softball Field.
Following the losses, Dominican now stands at 3-16 overall and 1-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
Game One: Pace led 5-0 after two innings of play and added a run in the fifth en route to the 6-0 loss.
Emma Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) had hits in the loss.
Pitcher Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) suffered the complete game loss.
Game Two: Pace led 1-0 after one inning of play, but the Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard in the third as designated player Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) led off the inning with a solo home run to knot the game, 1-1.
The Setters regained the lead in the fifth, but Dominican rallied to re-tie the score in the fifth as Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to bring home Isabella Mitterando (Mastic, N.Y.) and make the score 2-2.
Dominican took a 3-2 lead in the seventh as Salcido recorded her second home run of the game, but an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh forced extra innings.
Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) delivered a two out RBI single to right field to regain a 4-3 lead, but the Setters rallied with a two-run bottom of the eighth for the 5-4 victory.
Salcido went 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, while McIntosh also had two hits.
Stater Emily Null (Menifee, Calif.) took the complete game loss.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday, March 27th when they host Bloomfield College of Montclair State University.
