Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/27/24) The Dominican University New Yorks softball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header to the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University in games played today at the DUNY Softball Field.
The Bears hung on for an 11-9 victory in the opener and took the second game, 13-0 in five innings.
Dominican now stands at 3-18 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers put a run on the board in the bottom of the first as catcher Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) went to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to bring home Emma Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) to make the score 2-1.
Trailing 6-1, Dominican scored five runs in the bottom of the third to tie the score. Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) hit a run-scoring single to left field and a Bear fielding error allowed a second run to score. Later third basemen Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, N.Y.) hit a two out three-run homer to centerfield to make the score 6-6.
DUNY took a 7-6 lead in the fourth as first basemen Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) delivered an RBI single to left field for their first lead of the game.
The Bears rallied with two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh to rebuild an 11-7 lead, but Ridge blasted her second home run of the game, this one a two-run shot over the left field fence for the final 11-9 score.
