Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/8/24) The Dominican University New York softball team split a CACC doubleheader with the Georgian Court University Lions this afternoon on DU Softball Field.
The Lady Chargers took game one in comeback fashion but fell in game two which brings their record to 5-20 overall and 2-6 in the CACC. The Lions now hold a record of 12-14 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers opened the doubleheader with a comeback victory.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) cracked her 31st career homer for the 1-0 lead. Walker's third inning homer tied the program record for career homers.
GCU jumped ahead in the top of the fourth inning when Kaitlyn Stuft ripped a two-run homer for the 2-1 lead. Stuft extended the GCU lead with her second homer of the game.
DU rallied in the bottom of the sixth innings for three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Emily Angulo (Wilmington, Calif.) singled in a run to cut the deficit to 3-2 and Jalaeya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.) followed with an RBI-single that tied the game at 3-3.
DU took the lead on an Emma Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) sacrifice fly.
Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) finished the complete game victory to earn her third win of the season.
Game Two: The Lions bounced back in game two with a 13-1 victory in five innings to earn a split.
Julia Lapp recorded three strikeouts and recorded her second win of the season.
GCU jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning before adding six runs in the second inning and added two more runs in the third inning.
Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) put the Lady Chargers on the board with an RBI-double in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kaitlyn Stuft hit her third homer of the day in the top of the fifth inning for the 13-1 lead and the Lions would complete the victory.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Caldwell University at 2:30 and 4:30 on the DU Softball Field.
