Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/10/24) The Dominican University New York softball team earned a split with the Cougars of Caldwell University in CACC action this afternoon at the DU Softball Field.
The Lay Chargers took game one in five innings by a score of 11-2 but fell 8-1 in game two which brings their overall record to 6-21 and 3-7 in the CACC.
The Cougars now hold a record of 17-15 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers took game one 11-2 in five innings to open the doubleheader.
Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) hit her 32nd career homer in the bottom of the first inning of game one and now holds the program's home run record.
Walker's homer put the Lady Chargers on the board after Caldwell took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) followed with a three-run homer to jump in front 4-1.
DU added one run in the third inning after Adriana Barnes (North Brunswick, N.J.) singled in their fifth run of the game.
DU rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning including a three-run homer by Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) and RBI-singles by Ridge and Jalaeya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.).
Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) completed the win by shutting out the Cougars in the top of the fifth inning.
Game Two: The Cougars bounced back in game two by topping the Lady Chargers by a score of 8-1.
Allison Winters tossed a complete seven innings and struck out four to earn her sixth win of the season.
The Cougars scored three runs in the top of the first inning and the Lady Chargers got one run back after a Madison Walker sacrifice fly.
The Cougars extended their lead to 5-1 in the second and then 8-1 in the fourth on their way to the 8-1 victory.
Emily Baxter tossed a complete seven innings and earned five strikeouts but suffered the loss.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to return to action tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader with the College of Staten Island.
