Little Ferry, N.J. (4/14/24) The Dominican University New York softball team dropped both games of a CACC doubleheader to the Golden Falcons of Felician University this afternoon.
The Golden Falcons earned a shutout victory in game one and held off a late comeback by the Lady Chargers in game two to complete the sweep.
The Lady Chargers fall to 6-23 overall and 3-9 in conference play while the Golden Falcons improve to 15-23 overall and 9-5 in the CACC.
Game One: The Golden Falcons won game one by a score of 2-0. Riley Williams pitched a complete game shutout allowing three hits and struck out four.
Alexis Velotta drove in both runs for the Golden Falcons on an RBI-single in the first inning and later the second run scored on an error in the third inning.
Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) tossed six strong innings for the Lady Chargers striking out seven hitters and only surrendering one walk and three hits.
Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) went 1-3 while Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) went 2-3 including a double.
Game Two: The Golden Falcons completed the sweep with a 5-4 victory in game two.
Riley Williams earned her second victory of the day while earning five strikeouts and tossing a complete seven innings.
Emily Baxter suffered the loss in game two but threw six innings striking out three batters.
The Golden Falcons scored the first run of the game in the third inning and extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning.
The Lady Chargers pulled within one run in the top of the sixth inning after an RBI by McIntosh and an error made the deficit 3-2.
An RBI-triple by Daisha Howard and a sacrifice fly by Hannah Ramirez gave the Golden Falcons two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Lady Chargers rallied in the top of the seventh inning and McIntosh singled down the left field line to cut the deficit to 5-4. The Lady Chargers loaded the bases but the rally fell short as Williams finished the complete game.
The Lady Chargers return to action on the road Tuesday afternoon for a CACC doubleheader with Holy Family University.
