Bensalem, Pa. (4/16/24) The Dominican University New York softball team swept a conference doubleheader from the Tigers of Holy Family University this afternoon.
The Lady Chargers opened the doubleheader with a 5-1 victory in game one and followed with a 9-1 victory in six innings in game two.
DU improves to 8-23 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
Game One: DU opened the DH with 5-1 win behind a complete game by Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) who struck out 11 batters to match a career high and earned her fifth win of the season.
Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) went 2-3 including a two-run homer in the second inning to get the scoring started. Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) also drove in two runs including an RBI-double in the seventh inning.
Emma Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) added a double while Emily Angulo (Wilmington, Calif.) finished with a hit and Adrianna Barnes (North Brunswick, N.J.) added an RBI.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers completed the sweep with a 9-1 victory in six innings.
Emily Baxter earned her sixth win of the season striking out six batters over five innings. Emily Null (Menifee, Calif.) threw a scoreless sixth inning to shut the door.
The Lady Chargers scored first on a Rosemary Esipnoza (Beaumont, Calif.) RBI-single. DU extended their lead to 6-0 with a five run fourth inning.
Two more runs in the fifth inning and a solo homer by Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) in the sixth extended the lead to 9-1.
Barnes also homered in the win and finished the game 3-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) went 2-3 with a double and one RBI while Kaszovitz drove in two RBIs and Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.) drove in one on an RBI-double. Haylee Ridge finished 2-4 with two RBIs.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to return home Thursday afternoon when they host Wilmington University at 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM.
