Wilmington, Del. (4/20/24) The Dominican University New York softball dropped two games of a CACC doubleheader to the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College.
The Lightning won both games in comeback fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Lady Chargers fall to 8-25 overall and 5-11 in the CACC while GBC improves to 23-15 overall and 13-7 in the CACC.
Game One: Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) pitched a strong game one going 6.1 striking out four and only allowing two hits and one walk but suffered the loss.
Abigail O'Shields struckout 13 while throwing a complete seven innings and earned her 15th win of the season.
The game was scoreless through the first six innings. Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) cracked a solo homer for the first run of the game to give the Lady Chargers the 1-0 lead.
GBC rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning and Autumn Simpson drove in the game winning runs.
Game Two: The Lightning earned their second straight bottom of the seventh come from behind victory in game two.
Baxter suffered the loss in game two after throwing 6.2 innings.
Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) opened the scoring in the first inning with a three run homer that put the Lady Chargers on top early. The score remained until the fourth inning when Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) extended the lead to 4-0 with an RBI-single.
The Lightning cut the DU lead to 4-3 after an RBI-double by Morgan Scott followed by back to back RBI-singles by Autumn Simpson and Gabriella Monzo.
Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) drove in the fifth run of the game in the sixth inning for the 5-3 lead.
For the second straight game, the Lightning battled back in the bottom of the seventh inning. McKenna Frank doubled in the fourth run of the game to cut the deficit to 5-4. Hanna Davis doubled in Frank to tie the game and Autumn Simpson delivered the game winning RBI-single.
The Lady Chargers return to action Monday afternoon when they visit Chestnut Hill College for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM.
