Philadelphia, Pa. (4/22/24) The Dominican University New York softball team returned to action today against the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College.
The Lady Chargers swept the doubleheader to improve to 10-25 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers pounded 18 total hits in game one on their way to an 11-2 victory in game one.
Each team scored twice in the first inning and then Dominican scored nine unanswered runs over the next six innings.
Haylee Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.), Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.), and Adriana Barnes (North Brunswick, N.J.) each drove in three runs. Ridge finished 2-3 while Barnes hit a double and Salcido went 2-3 with a homer.
Rosemary Espinoza (Beaumont, Calif.) went 4-5 with an RBI while Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) also went 4-5 with a double. Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.) added one RBI.
Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) earned her seventh win of the season while striking out 11 batters and only surrendered two runs and one walk.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers fell behind early but scored eight runs over two innings to jump in front.
The Lady Chargers added three more runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh inning on their way to a 13-5 victory.
Ridge continued her hot hitting going 3-5 with a homer and a double and drove in one run. Espinoza also went 3-5 and drove in a team-high three RBIs. McIntosh smacked two doubles and drove in one run.
Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) drove in two runs while Jalaeya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.) added two hits and one RBI. Baxter earned her eighth win and struck out six batters.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Wednesday when they visit Post University for a CACC doubleheader.
