Clermont, Fla. (3/1/25) The Dominican University New York softball team dropped two games today to the University of Sioux Falls, 11-2, and St. Cloud State University, 8-3, today in games played at The Spring Games.
Game One: In the opening game of the 2025 season, the Lady Chargers fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 11-2. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when the Cougars scored a run and followed with 19 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
The Lady Chargers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Jalaeya LaPorte brought home a run on a sacrifice fly ball and later Kindel Johnson drew a bases loaded walk for the eventual 11-2 score.
Second basemen Toni-Jo Lopez had two hits in the loss.
Reliver Melanie Fiumara suffered the loss in 1 and 2/3 innings of relief.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers suffered an 8-3 loss to St. Cloud State University in the night cap.
The Huskies led 5-0 after two innings of play when the Lady Chargers scored two runs as rightfielder Giovanna Salcido hit an RBI triple and two batters later LaPorte singled through the left side to bring home Salcido to make the score 5-2.
A third DUNY run scored in the fourth on a fielder's choice which allowed Emma Kaszovitz to reach base and Gianna Barbieri to score, but SCSU score three runs in their half of the fourth inning for the eventual 8-3 score.
Third basemen Nicole Mata and LaPorte had two hits each in the loss.
Lady Charger starter Gianna Barbieri took the loss in three innings of loss.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow when they take on Clarion and Edinboro at The Spring Games.
