LADY CHARGERS TAKE TWO ON DAY TWO OF THE SPRING GAMES
Clermont, Fla. (3/2/25) The Dominican University New York softball team won two games today on day two of the Spring Games with victories over Clarion University and Edinboro University.
Following today's games, the Lady Chargers are now 2-2 on the season.
Dominican defeated Clarion University, 9-1 in six innings and rallied to defeat to Edinboro University, 15-10.
Game One: DUNY scored two runs in the first inning as Giovanna Salcido doubled home a run and Jalaeya LaPorte later followed with a run-scoring single to right field for the early 2-0 lead.
Dominican added four runs in the second frame as shortstop Chloe McIntosh and Emma Kaszovitz recorded back-to-back RBI singles and Salcido followed with a two-run double to right field to extend their lead to 6-0.
An RBI single to centerfield off the bat of Adriana Barnes in the fourth made the score 7-0 and following a Golden Eagles run in their half of the sixth, the Lady Chargers added two runs off an RBI double to left field from Salcido and an RBI sacrifice fly ball by Barnes for the 9-1 victory.
Salcido went 3-4 in the game with four RBIs, while McIntosh, Kaszovitz and Toni-Jo Lopez all had two hits in the victory.
Emily Baxter picked up her first win of the season, collecting seven strikeouts in four and 2/3 innings of work.
Game Two: The night cap saw the Lady Chargers score 15 runs on 10 hits. DUNY scored two runs in their half of the first inning on a passed ball and an RBI single from LaPorte.
The Fighting Scots scored runs in the first two innings to take a 3-2 lead, but the Lady Chargers regained the lead in the third on the RBI double off the bat of Salcido and an Edinboro error for the 4-3 advantage.
Edinboro scored three in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth inning to rebuild a 10-4 lead, but Dominican got a run back in the fifth on the run-scoring single to right from McIntosh and added five runs in the sixth as Nicole Mata hit a two-run scoring single to right field and an RBI triple to right from Kaszovitz. A Fighting Scot error allowed another run to score and Salcido delivered a run-scoring single to centerfield to re-tie the gamem 10-10.
In the top of the seventh, back-to-back errors allowed three runs to come home and an RBI groundout followed. McIntosh scored on a wild pitch to secure the 15-10 Lady Charger win.
Kaszovitz had three hits in the game, while Salcido finished with two hits and three RBIs.
Baxter recorded her second win of the day.
The Lady Charger return to action on Tuesday morning at The Spring Games when they take on Concordia University - St. Paul and Ashland University.
