Clermont, Fla. (3/5/25) The Dominican University New York softball team lost two games today at The Spring Games as they fell to California University of Pennslyvania, 10-9 and to Salem University, 10-4.
Following the games, the team is now 2-6 on the season.
Game One: The Lady Chargers struck for five runs in the top of the first innng, taking advantage of back-to-back bases loaded walks, a wild pitch and a two run single through the right side off the bat of senior Toni-Jo Lopez.
The Vulcans countered in the bottom stanza with four runs, but Dominican added a run in the second inning on the single to right field from Jalaeya LaPorte and another in the third on the RBI single to right off the bat of Emma Kaszovitz to gain a 7-4 lead.
A two-run top of the fourth by DUNY, with a run scoring on an error and a single to center field from Nicole Mata, extended their lead to 9-4 through four innings of play. The Vulcans scored two runs in the fifth, three runs in the sixth and got the game-winning to cross the plate in the seventh on an RBI double to take home the 10-9 win.
Kaszovitz, Chloe McIntosh, Kindel Johnson and Adriana Barnes all had two hits in the loss.
Emma Baxter took the complete game loss, while collecting seven strikeouts.
Game Two: Salem scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Charger scored two runs in the bottom frame as LaPorte hit a two-run double to right field.
The Tigers re-took the lead with a four-run top of the fourth and added four more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 10-2.
The Lady Chargers added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on the two-run single off the bat of Mia Valverde.
Gianna Barbieri took the loss in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.
