Clermont, Fla. (3/7/25) The Dominican University New York softball team continued their trip to Clermont, Fla. with two more match ups at the Spring Games.
The Lady Chargers fell to the College of Staten Island by a score of 6-1 in game one followed by a 5-1 loss to Southwest Minnesota State University.
Dominican falls to 2-8 overall early on this season.
Game One: Victoria Iorio started for the Lady Chargers and surrendered four hits and three earned runs as she suffered the loss. Emily Baxter entered the game in relief and struck out four while surrendering three earned runs.
Both teams got on the board with one run each in the first inning. Trailing 1-0, Adriana Barnes ripped an RBI-double to tie the game.
CSI regained the lead in the top of the second and added two runs in the fourth inning and two more runs in the sixth on their way to the 6-1 victory.
The Lady Chargers finished game one with seven total hits.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers finished the day as they took on Southwest Minnesota State University in game two.
Gianna Barbieri started for the Lady Chargers and suffered the loss. Melanie Fiumara entered in relief and tossed two innings.
Dominican got on the board first in the second inning after Nicole Mata drove an RBI-single up the middle for the 1-0 lead.
SMSU scored five runs in two innings as they tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and then scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 5-1 lead which was the final score.
Dominican finished the game with six total hits. Mata had three of their six hits while Jalaeya LaPorte went 2 for 3. Barnes reached base in all three plate appearances with a single and two walks including scoring the only DU run of the game.
The Lady Chargers return to action tomorrow for their final doubleheader of their trip.
