Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/13/25) The Dominican University New York softball team split a non-conference double-header with the visiting Dolphins from the College of Staten Island in games played today at the DUNY Softball Field.
Dominican won the first game, 6-2, but fell in the nightcap, 5-2 to now stand at 4-12 on the season.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the top of the third when CSI struck for two runs for 2-0 lead. The Lady Chargers countered in the bottom of the inning with five runs on five hits and one error. Nicole Mata got things going with a run-scoring single to left field and two batters later Chloe McIntosh brought Mata home with an RBI single. Rightfielder Adriana Barnes later blasted a three-run home run over the centerfield fence to push DUNY in front 5-2.
The Lady Chargers added a run in the bottom of the fourth stanza on a sacrifice fly ball hit by Mata to increase the lead to the eventual 6-2 win.
Designated hitter Giovanna Salcido and first basmen Kindel Johnson had two hits each in the win.
Emily Baxter picked up the win in six innings of work, allowing two runs on six hits and four strikeouts.
Game Two: The Dolphins scored a run in the top of the first and tacked on four more runs in the fourth to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Dominican got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when catcher Salcido delivered a two-run home run to right centerfielder field to cut the deficit to the eventual 5-2 final.
Barnes recorded two hits in the loss.
Starter Gianna Barbieri suffered the loss in three and 2/3 innings of work.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Holy Family University in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener. Game one is slated to begin at 12pm at the DUNY Softball Field.
