SOFTBALL TAKES ONE FROM TIGERS IN CACC TWINBILL

Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/15/25)  The Dominican University New York softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University in games played today at the DUNY Softball Field.

The Lady Chargers won the first game, 4-1, but fell in the nightcap, 12-1 in six innings.

Following the split, Dominican improves to 5-13 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Game One:  Dominican got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when they hit back-to-back home runs by Chloe McIntosh and Giovanna Salcido for the 3-0 lead.  McIntosh delivered a two-run blast to left centerfield, followed by Salcido's solo shot to the same place.

The Tigers scored a run in the top of the third, but the Lady Chargers regained the three-run lead in the bottom of the fourth on the RBI groundout by Emma Kaszovitz to take a 4-1 advantage and eventual win.

McIntosh finished the game with two RBIs.

Starter Emma Baxter picked up the complete game victory, allowing one run on seven hits and collecting five strikeouts.

Game Two:   The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when the Tigers struck for two runs.  The Chargers got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on the RBI ground out by Mia Valverde.

HFU added three runs in the fifth and scored seven in the top of the sixth to lead them to a 12- 1 six-inning victory.

Right fielder Adriana Barnes went 2-3 in the contest.

Lady Charger starter Gianna Barbieri suffered the loss.

Dominican returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Felician University.  Game one is slated to begin at 2:30 pm on the DUNY Softball Field.
