Bloomfield, N.J. (3/25/25) The Dominican University New York softball team swept CACC rival Bloomfield College of MSU this afternoon at Clark's Pond South in Bloomfield, N.J.
After the sweep, the Lady Chargers improve to 7-17 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers opened the doubleheader with a 4-0 victory in game one.
Junior pitcher Emily Baxter pitched a shutout going a complete seven innings and earned a career high 14 strikeouts. Baxter only allowed six hits and did not allow any walks as she improved to 6-4 on the season.
Dominican jumped ahead early as senior Chloe McIntosh singled in the game's first two runs in the top of the first inning.
RBI-singles by Adriana Barnes in the third inning and Emma Kaszovitz in the fourth inning extended the DU lead to 4-0.
Baxter continued to shut the Bears offense down as DU closed out the win.
Game Two: Dominican followed up game one with a game two victory to complete the sweep over the Bears.
Freshman pitcher Gianna Barbieri tossed 4.2 innings while striking out five and recorded her first win of her career.
Baxter entered the game in relief and threw 2.1 shutout innings earning four strikeouts.
BC jumped in front 1-0 in the second inning. Dominican answered with a three run rally highlighted by a two-RBI single by Barnes.
Dominican added their fourth run in the fourth inning and then an RBI-single by Kate Juskiewicz cut the DU lead to 4-2.
An RBI-single by Emily Angulo and a bases loaded walk by Toni-Jo Lopez extended the DU lead to 6-2.
Hailey Connor cut the deficit in half with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning. Dominican added an insurance run in the top of the seventh after a sac fly RBI by Victoria Iorio.
A 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning closed out the sweep for the Lady Chargers.
Dominican returns to action this Saturday when they return home to host Goldey-Beacom College.
