Garnerville, N.Y. (3/29/25) The Dominican University New York softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in games played this evening at the Haverstraw Recreational Facility.
Dominican won the first game, 5-1, but fell in the nightcap 14-0 in five innings.
With the split the Lady Chargers are now 8-18 overall and 4-4 in the CACC.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when GBC struck for a run on a single down the right field line for the early lead.
Dominican took the lead in the fifth on the two-run single to right field off the bat of Toni-Jo Lopez for the 2-1 advantage.
The Lady Chargers added three more runs in the sixth as Kindel Johnson brought home a run with a single and a second run scored on an error. The third run came home on another error for the 5-1 lead and eventual win.
Johnson went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Starter Emily Baxter picked up the complete game victory, scattering five hits and striking out six batters.
Game Two: The nightcap belonged to the Lightning as they scored 14 runs on 10 hits en route to the 14-0 five inning win.
Mia Valverde had the lone hit for the Lady Chargers.
Starter Gianna Barbieri took the loss in three innings of work.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College.
