Caldwell, N.J. (4/2/25) The Dominican University New York softball team fell in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action to host Caldwell University today in games played at the Caldwell Athletic Complex.
The Cougars rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Lady Chargers, 7-6 in 10 innings and picked up a 9-4 win in game two.
Game One: Dominican got on the scoreboard in the top of the third as Emma Kaszovitz hit an RBI double down the left field line and Kindel Johnson followed with a run-scoring single to left field for the early lead.
DUNY added to the lead in the fourth as right fielder Mia Valverde hit an RBI single to centerfield and two batters later shortstop Chloe McIntosh hit an RBI infield single. Kaszovitz then delivered an RBI single to right field to increase the lead to 5-0.
Caldwell got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Lady Chargers added a run in the sixth as second basemen Toni-Jo Lopez blasted a solo homerun to make the score 6-3.
The Cougars tie the game with three runs in the seventh and won the game in the bottom of the tenth on the one out RBI single to left for the 7-6 win.
McIntosh had two hits in the game, while Kaszovitz finished with two hits and two RBIs in the loss.
Starter Emily Baxter suffered the complete game loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) and striking out seven batters.
Game Two: Caldwell scored a run in the top of the first, but the Lady Chargers got the run back in the third as Nicole Mata hit an RBI infield single to make the score 1-1.
CU got the run back in the bottom of the third and added two in the fourth for the 4-1 advantage. The Lady Chargers re-tied the game in the fifth as Johnson belted a two run homerun and a throwing error allowed Jalaeya LaPorte to score and make the score 4-4.
The Cougars added two runs in the fifth and tacked on three more in the sixth for the 9-4 win.
Mata went 3-4 int he game, while Johnson finished with two RBIs.
Starter Gianna Barbieri took the complete game loss.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday when they travel to CACC foe Georgian Court University.
