West Haverstraw, N.Y. (4/8/25) The Dominican University New York softball team took two games of a CACC doubleheader over Post University this afternoon at the Haverstraw Rec and Sports Complex.
The Lady Chargers defeated the Eagles by a score of 11-3 in each game to improve to 10-21 overall and 6-6 in the CACC.
Game One: The Lady Chargers opened the doubleheader with an 11-3 victory in five innings.
Starting pitcher Emily Baxter tossed five innings while allowing three runs and struck out 12 batters to earn her eighth win on the season.
Dominican jumped in front early with three runs in the second inning after RBI-singles by Jalaeya LaPorte and Toni-Jo Lopez, while the third run was scored on a sac fly by Emily Angulo.
A two-run homer by Bailey Dickenson and an RBI-double by Angelica Tompinks cut the DU lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning.
RBI-singles by Emma Kaszovitz and Adriana Barnes extended the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Dominican rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the five inning 11-3 win. Chloe McIntosh singled in a run and Kaszovitz followed with an RBI-double. Kindle Johnson sealed the win with a three-run homer.
Game Two: Dominican finished the sweep with a come from behind win in game two.
Dominican plated the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning after an RBI-single by Angulo and a sac fly by Lopez.
The Eagles rallied in the top half of the fifth inning with three runs to take the lead after and RBI-groundout by Tompkins and then Bailey Dickenson followed with a single that drove in two runs.
Dominican regained the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning after an infield single by McIntosh tied the game and then later scored the go ahead run on a Kaszovitz double.
Dominican rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the 11-3 win in six innings.
LaPorte, Lopez, and Kaszovitz all drove in RBI's. The rally was capped off by an RBI-single by Barnes which sealed the 11-3 win.
Gianna Barbieri and Victoria Iorio each threw three innings for the Lady Chargers. Iorio recorded her first career win.
The Lady Chargers return to action this Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader on the road against Mercy University.
