LADY CHARGERS OPEN 24-25 CAMPAIGN WITH WIN OVER ADELPHI UNIVERSITY
Caldwell, N.J. (11/8/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with a non-conference win over the Panthers of Adelphi University.
Dominican opened the season with their first game of the Caldwell Conference Challenge hosted by Caldwell University from the George R. Newman Center.
Both teams played a close game that saw nine ties, six lead changes, and the largest lead of the game was six points on each side.
Adelphi held a three point lead heading into halftime and won the third quarter by outscoring DU 20-12 to give AU a 50-44 lead to begin the fourth quarter.
Dominican answered with a big fourth quarter outscoring AU 22-12 and used an 11-4 run to take the lead.
The Lady Chargers never lost the lead from there on their way to the 66-62 victory.
Cayla Howard and Tanasha Mills combined for 44 points out of the 66 team points scored. Mills scored a team-high 24 points including 14-15 from the charity stripe. Mills also picked up seven boards, two assists, and one steal.
Howard went 6-13 from the field and 7-9 from the free throw line. Howard picked up six rebounds, two steals, and one block.
Chidinma Ndukauba and Tamia Nunes each recorded a team-high nine boards. Nunes scored eight points while Ndukauba added seven points. Angelina DiMarsico picked up a team-high eight assists.
Adelphi held the edge in points in the paint while Dominican held the edge in rebounds and second chance points.
The Lady Chargers return to action tomorrow afternoon against Pace University at 2:00 PM as the Caldwell Conference Challenge continues.
