LADY CHARGERS WRAP UP KNIGHTS THANKSGIVING INVITATIONAL WITH A WIN OVER QUEENS COLLEGE
Queens, N.Y. (12/1/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team bounced back with a win on day two of the Knights Thanksgiving Invitational over host school Queens College.
Dominican, #6 in the D2CSC East Region Poll, split their two games over the weekend and improved to 7-2 overall on the season. The Knights fall to 2-3 overall.
The Lady Chargers finished the game shooting 40.4% from the field and added five three pointers. Dominican went 11-13 from the charity stripe and outrebounded the Knights 41-38.
The Lady Chargers scored 22 points in the paint and turned 15 QC turnovers into 13 points.
Both teams opened the game with a low scoring first quarter but the Lady Chargers used a 20 point second quarter to extend to a 10 point lead.
Dominican extended their lead in the third quarter to 14 which was their largest lead of the game. QC held Dominican to five points in the third quarter and used a 10-0 run to cut the DU lead to 35-31 by the fourth quarter.
Dominican used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to extend their lead back to double digits on their way to the 58-50 win.
DU was led by junior guard Cayla Howard who picked up a double-double on 22 points and matched a career high 13 boards. Tanasha Mills finished with 10 points and a team-high seven assists. Mills also had four rebounds and two steals.
Chidinma Ndukauba, Tamia Nunes, and Delana Taylor each finished with six points. Ndukauba pulled down 10 boards while Nunes finished with six. Angelina DiMarsico added five points, three rebounds, and two assists.
The Lady Chargers will return home Tuesday when they open conference play with north division rival Post University at 5:30 PM.
