
MILLS AND HOWARD COMBINE FOR 41 POINTS AS LADY CHARGERS UPEND EAGLES IN CACC OPENER
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/3/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team opened conference play with a win over north division rival Post University on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Lady Chargers, #6 in the latest D2CSC East Region Poll, improve to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the CACC. The Eagles fall to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.
Junior Cayla Howard and graduate student Tanasha Mills combined for 41 points to lead the Lady Chargers in scoring.
Howard scored a team-high 21 points and picked up 14 boards for her second straight double-double. Howard went 9-21 from the field and also recorded four blocks.
Mills finished the game with 20 points on 4-8 from the field and 11-13 from the charity stripe. Mills also finished with a team-high six assists and two steals.
Chidinma Ndukauba scored seven points and recorded two rebounds and two blocks. Angelina DiMarsico and Tamia Nunes each finished with five points.
Dominican led the Eagles by four points after the first quarter and extended to a double digit lead by halftime.
Dominican extended to their largest lead of the game late in the third quarter which was 18 points.
The Eagles used a 12-3 run to cut the DU to single digits with four minutes left to play. The Lady Chargers never lost the lead on their way to the 65-56 victory.
Dominican finished shooting 39.3% from the field and went 17-21 from the free throw line as a team for 81.0%.
Post had 24 turnovers and Dominican cashed in for 20 points off of Post turnovers.
The Lady Chargers return to action on the road this Saturday when they visit Felician University.
