WOMEN'S BASKETBALL UPENDED BY OWLS
New Haven, Conn. (12/18/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team fell in non-conference action to the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University this afternoon.
The #6 ranked team in the D2CSC East Region Poll Lady Chargers fall to 9-4 on the season while the Owls, #3 in the D2CSC East Region Poll, improve to 9-2 overall.
The Lady Chargers trailed after the opening quarter but held the Owls to seven points in the second quarters and brought a 30-27 lead into halftime.
The Owls held Dominican to 20 second half points as they outscored the Lady Chargers 33-20 to take home the 60-50 victory.
The Owls outscored the Lady Chargers 34-16 in the paint and held the edge in rebounds 46-24. DU scored 19 points off of 16 SCSU turnovers and picked up eight second chance points as well as nine fastbreak points.
Tanasha Mills was the leading scorer for Dominican finishing with 17 points while also dishing out a team-high five assists and pulled down three rebounds.
Angelina DiMarsico went 4-9 from the field including three from beyond the arc for 11 points. DiMarsico also added three boards and one assist. Tamia Nunes scored nine points while picking up four boards, three assists, and two steals.
Dalana Taylor finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
The Owls were led by Rheyna Steinauer who recorded a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Katie Williamson scored 13 points and pulled down nine boards. Delaney Haines and Hope Fox each finished with a team-high seven assists.
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back this Saturday for their final game of the 2024 calendar year on the road against Mansfield University.
