DOMINICAN CONTINUES STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER PURPLE KNIGHTS
Bridgeport, Conn. (1/22/25) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team extended their conference winning streak to seven games tonight after defeating host, the University of Bridgeport, 49-43 in a game played at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
With the win Dominican improves to 15-4 overall and 7-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
Following an opening basket by the Purple Knights, the Lady Chargers went on a 12-0 run to push ahead 12-2 and they wouldn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the contest. DUNY would lead by as many 15 points when Chidinma Ndukauba scored a layup with 3:42 to play in the second quarter to make the score 26-11.
Dominican held a 10-point advantage (38-28) going into the fourth quarter when UB scored six straight points to cut the deficit to four points (38-34) with 6:50 to play. Bridgeport would come within one point (42-41) with 3:17 on the clock, but a 7-0 Lady Charger run rebuilt a 49-41 lead and they went on to the 49-43 win.
Tamia Nunes led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 12 points and four rebounds.
Guard Tanasha Mills tallied 11 points and three assists, while Ndukauba finished with 11 points and nine caroms.
Cayla Howard recorded nine points and seven boards in the victory.
Next up for the Lady Chargers is a road trip to conference foe, Georgian Court University, this coming Saturday. Game time is set for 12pm.
