
#1 OVERALL SEED LADY CHARGERS FALL TO #2 IN THE SOUTH DIVISION HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY IN THE CACC SEMIFINALS
Philadelphia, Pa. (3/8/25) The #1 overall seed Lady Chargers fell to the #2 seed in the south Holy Family University in the CACC Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals this afternoon at the Gallagher Center hosted by Thomas Jefferson University.
The Lady Chargers, #9 in the recent NCAA East Region rankings, fall to 22-8 overall after the 58-56 loss. The Tigers, #5 in the NCAA East Region rankings, improves to 23-6 overall.
The tightly contested game saw 14 ties and 20 lead changes.
Junior guard Tamia Nunes scored a career high 20 points and led all scorers on 8-16 from the field. Nunes also recorded three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Tanasha Mills finished with 15 points including a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe. Mills also pulled down six boards and dished out a team-high eight assists.
Junior guard Cayla Howard scored nine points and recorded a team-high eight boards. Howard also added three steals. Angelina DiMarsico added six points, four boards, and three steals while Chidinma Ndukauba pulled down six boards and recorded a team-high five steals.
The Tigers were led by Carolyn Prevost who scored a team-high 15 points while also adding seven boards, two steals, and one block. Taylor Hinkle recorded a double-double with a game-high 14 boards and scored 10 points.
Skyler Searfoss scored nine points and added seven boards while Jessica Riepe and Amy Ngo each added seven points.
A closely played first half saw the Lady Chargers on top 14-12 after the opening quarter and both teams scored 14 points a piece in the second quarter as DU took a 28-26 lead into halftime.
The Tigers put up a big offensive quarter in the third scoring 18 points and held Dominican to just nine. HFU extended to their largest lead of the game in the third quarter which was 11 points and held a 44-37 lead by the start of the fourth quarter.
Dominican started the fourth quarter on a 10-4 run to pull within one point. With less than five minutes to play, Dominican tied the game at 50 all when Nunes connected on a shot from beyond the arc.
A bucket by Searfoss at 4:07 of the quarter was the final score by either team until the 1:46 mark when Hinkle extended the lead to 54-50.
As time was winding down, Searfoss hit two free-throws with 22 seconds remaining to push the Tiger lead to 56-50. Nunes answered with another three-pointer on the next possession to cut the deficit in half.
One free-throw was made to extend the Tiger lead to 57-53 with 11 seconds left. Ndukauba was fouled on a made jump shot and then completed the three-point play.
With five ticks remaining, Searfoss went 1-2 from the free-throw line to give HFU a 58-56 lead. Nunes took a last second three-pointer on the final DU possession that would not go and the Tigers held on for the 58-56 victory.
