
GOLDEN KNIGHTS OUTLAST WOMEN'S LACROSSE IN SEASON OPENER
Hillburn, N.Y. (2/22/23) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team opened up the 2023 season with a loss to non-conference opponent, the College of Saint Rose, 21-18, this afternoon in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Following the contest Dominican now stands at 0-1 overall while the Golden Knights improve to 1-0.
Attacker Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) scored a career high seven goals to lead the Lady Chargers.
Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) contributed four goals and two assists, while midfielder Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) added three goals and one assist.
Freshman attacker Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) netted two goals (her first collegiate being scored with 11:20 left in the first quarter) and a team best four assists. Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) recorded one goal and one assist with Ellie Brouwer (West Long Branch, N.J.) scoring one goal.
Dominican trailed 21-12 with 13:10 left in the fourth quarter when the team went on a 6-0 run to close out the game. Ortiz netted the first two goals of the run with Grella assisting on both scores. Tomasetti followed off the dish from Grella and Ortiz followed with her third goal of the quarter off the pass from Tomasetti. Brouwer made the score 21-17 on the man-up opportunity with under three minutes to play and Ortiz tallied the final goal of the game off the pass from DeStasio for the final 21-18 score.
Goalie Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) began the game in the Lady Charger net and made three saves. Kathryn Erhlinger (Levittown, N.Y.) followed, while Rebecca Nutting (Marcellus, N.Y.) played the final 18:38 in goal.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to return to action this coming Saturday when they host non-conference opponent, the University of the District of Columbia.
