
LADY CHARGERS END LIONS WINNING STREAK
Hillburn, N.Y. (4/1/23) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team snapped Georgian Court University's winning streak of 50 straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games by handing the Lions a 17-10 loss this evening in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Hillburn, N.Y. (4/1/23) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team snapped Georgian Court University's winning streak of 50 straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games by handing the Lions a 17-10 loss this evening in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
In a battle of the only two unbeaten CACC teams, the Lady Chargers gave the Lions their first conference loss since 2016 and improves their record to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the CACC. The Lions fall to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Sophomore midfielder Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) had a team and season high five goals in the win.
Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) recorded three goals, one assist, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Attacker Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) added two goals and three assists, including her 100th career assist with 7:02 remaining in the first quarter, while Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) netted two goals and two assists.
CACC Rookie of the Week, Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) had two goals. Anna Kaminskey (Mount Sinai, N.Y.), Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) and Ellie Brouwer (West Long Branch, N.J.) all had a goal in the victory.
Goalie Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made 13 saves throughout the contest.
The first quarter saw the Lady Chargers control the offense as they began the game on a 3-0 run and ended the quarter with four straight scores for a 7-1 advantage. GCU countered in the second frame outscoring DUNY, 5-2 to cut the deficit 9-6 at the break.
Dominican came out of the weather extended halftime intermission and went on a 4-0 tear, three goals coming off free position attempts, to rebuild a 13-6 lead. The Lions scored the final two goals of the third to make the score 13-8 at the end of three quarters of play.
The Lady Chargers began the final period once again on an offensive run, scoring the first four scores, to push their lead to 17-8. The Lions scored the final two goals of the game for the 17-10 Dominican victory.
Up next for the Lady Chargers is a road trip to Caldwell University for a CACC contest scheduled for Wednesday, April 5th at 4pm.
