
LADY CHARGERS TOP GCU FOR A SPOT IN THE CACC FINALS
Waterbury, Conn. (5/6/23) The Dominican University New York women’s lacrosse team earned a spot in the 2023 CACC Finals with a 15-11 victory over Georgian Court University this afternoon at LaMoy Field on the campus of Post University.

Dominican improves to 16-2 overall this season after defeating GCU in the semifinal round.
Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) was the leading scorer for Dominican with six goals scored and two assists for eight points. DeStasio also led the team in shots with 14. Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) scored three goals and recorded one assist for four points.
Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) finished with two goals and two assists while Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) also scored two goals and picked up two ground balls.
Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) scored two goals, recorded one assist, and recorded four draw controls. Erin Carr (Wall, N.J.) picked up three ground balls and recorded a team-high nine draw controls. Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) recorded three ground balls.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned the win in net for Dominican and recorded eight saves and picked up a team-high five ground balls.
GCU goalkeeper Alexis Hahn recorded 18 saves in the game but suffered the loss. The Lions were led by Kasha Elzinga who scored four goals. Isabel Raimondi scored three goals and added one assist while Remi Reinhardt scored two goals and added one assist.
Alyssa Wahl and Ashley Pringle each scored one goal for GCU.
Both teams played an even first half with each team only holding a one goal lead over the other. The Lady Chargers scored with 1:15 remaining in the first half and the Lions answered with 46 seconds left which sent both teams into halftime tied 7-7.
Dominican scored four times in the third quarter including two goals at the end of the quarter by Strohmayer to give Dominican a two goal advantage at the start of the fourth quarter.
DeStasio and Grella opened the fourth quarter with one goal each to give Dominican a 13-9 lead. GCU answered to cut the lead to 13-10 but goals by Costello and Ortiz helped solidify the win.
Kaszovitz made three saves in the fourth quarter all with less than five minutes to play.
The Lady Chargers return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM for the 2023 CACC Women's Lacrosse Championship Finals against Thomas Jefferson University on LaMoy Field at Post University.
