
LADY CHARGERS WRAP UP OPENING WEEKEND WITH WIN OVER D'YOUVILLE UNIVERSITY
Buffalo, N.Y. (2/25/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team wrapped up their opening weekend road trip with a 15-4 victory over the Saints of D'Youville University.
The Lady Chargers improve to 2-0 early on in the season and hand the Saints their first loss of the season who fell to 1-1.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned her second win in as many games to begin the season and made four saves.
D'Youville keeper Brinn Stworzydlak made 13 saves but suffered the loss to fall to 1-1.
Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) finished with a game-high six goals on a team-high 10 shots and also added three draw controls. Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored four goals and picked up two draw controls.
Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) each scored two goals. Grella also picked up two assists while Strohmayer picked up three ground balls. Anna Kaminskey (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) added one goal.
Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded a team-high four assists and four draw controls. Jenna Rigo (East Islip, N.Y.) added a team-high five ground balls.
The Lady Chargers jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first quarter before Sam Newlin got the Saints on the board with two straight goals at the end of the first quarter and at the start of the second quarter.
Madison Buck scored her first goal to cut the Lady Charger lead to 5-3. Strohmayer scored a man advantage goal with less than one minute to play in the opening half.
Dominican outscored the Saints 9-1 in the second half which included four goals by Ortiz on their way to the 15-4 victory.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Saturday, March 2nd when they visit the University of New Haven for a non-conference game at 1:00 PM.
