
GOLDEN BEARS OUTLAST LADY CHARGERS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/5/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action to Kutztown University in their home opener on O'Brien Field this afternoon.
The Lady Chargers fall to 2-2 overall on the season while the Golden Bears improve to 2-0 after the win.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) started in goal for the Lady Chargers and made three saves but suffered the loss and fell to 2-2 on the season.
Jenna Blesson started in goal for the Golden Bears and made 14 saves to earn the win and improve to 2-0.
Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) and Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) each scored hat tricks for the Lady Chargers and Ortiz also picked up three ground balls and added five draw controls.
Alexa Preston (Coram, N.Y.), Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.), and Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) each scored two goals. Grella also recorded two assists and picked up three ground balls while DeStasio finished with three draw controls, one ground ball, and one assist.
Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scored one goal and picked up two ground balls while Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded a team-high six draw controls and added four ground balls.
Erin Carr (Wall, N.J.) finished with a team-high six ground balls.
The Golden Bears went on an early 5-0 run in the first half to extend to a 7-2 lead over the Lady Chargers but DU answered by scoring the last three games of the first half to cut the deficit to 7-5 by halftime.
KU used a 5-1 run to begin the second half and extended their lead to 12-6. Dominican scored three of the next four goals of the game to cut the deficit to 13-9 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Dominican made a late push at the end of the fourth quarter scoring two consecutive goals but the Golden Bears were able to close out the 16-13 victory.
For KU, Laillah ElBouazzaoui scored a team-high six goals while Sam Graf scored four goals and added one assist and a team-high eight draw controls. Olivia Eilbacher scored two goals and recorded a team-high four assists.
The Lady Chargers look to bounce back this weekend when they visit Savannah College of Art & Design for a non-conference contest at 1:00 PM.
