
LADY CHARGERS TAKE DOWN WILMINGTON IN 10TH STRAIGHT WIN
Newark, Del. (4/14/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team took down the Wildcats of Wilmington University this afternoon to extend their winning streak to 10 straight games.
The Lady Chargers improve to 12-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play while the Wildcats fall to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in the CACC.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned her 12th win of the season in net for the Lady Chargers and made eight saves.
Katie Vindigni made 11 saves in net for WU but suffered the loss.
The game was tied early in the first quarter and back to back goals by the Wildcats gave WU the lead.
A five goal run to end the quarter gave the Lady Chargers a 7-3 lead. Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) scored five of the seven DU first quarter goals.
Each team added five goals in the second quarter and DU held a 12-8 lead by halftime.
Wilmington scored the first two goals of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 12-10 but the Lady Chargers answered with eight goals in the quarter including three more by Ortiz and DU held a 20-13 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Each team scored three times in the fourth quarter and the Lady Chargers secured the 23-16 victory.
Ortiz scored a game-high eight goals and took a team-high 15 shots. Ortiz also picked up a team-high eight draw controls and two assists.
Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.), Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), and Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) combined for 12 goals. Grella and DeStasio each picked up three ground balls while Costello added four draw controls.
Anna Kaminskey (Mount Sinai, N.Y.), Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.), and Alivia Chieca (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each finished with one goal. Erin Carr (Wall, N.J.) recorded four ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers while Jenna Rigo (East Islip, N.Y.) recorded a team-high five caused turnovers.
The Lady Chargers return home Wednesday afternoon when they finish their non-conference schedule with Mercy University at 3:30 PM on O'Brien Field.
