
GRELLA SCORES CAREER HIGH, COSTELLO NETS 100TH CAREER GOAL AS LADY CHARGERS TOP LIONS
Lakewood, N.J. (4/20/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team took down the Lions of Georgian Court University in CACC action this afternoon at the GCU Track and Field Complex in Lakewood, N.J.
The Lady Chargers improve to 13-3 overall and 8-0 in the CACC while GCU falls to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made five saves in net for the Lady Chargers and earned her 13th victory on the season.
Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) led the Lady Chargers in goals with eight which is a career high. Grella also took a team-high 15 shots and recorded two assists.
Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) finished with two goals and three assists for five points. Costello's first goal of the game in the first quarter was her 100th goal of her career. Costello also recorded a career high 12 draw controls.
Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) scored a hat trick and picked up three ground balls. Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) each scored two goals.
Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored two goals, recorded two assists, and picked up three ground balls and five draw controls. Ellie Brouwer (West Long Branch, N.J.) added one goal.
GCU scored the first wo goals of the game and DU answered by scoring three of the next four to end the first quarter.
An even second quarter saw the Lady Chargers finish strong as Tomasetti put DU on top 8-7 before halftime.
Dominican jumped out to a three goal lead in the third quarter but the Lions fought back to tie the game at 11-11 with over six minutes to play in the quarter. Goals by DeStasio and Ortiz gave DU a two goal advantage before the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Chargers took control of the game in the fourth quarter by scoring seven goals using a five goal run to extend the lead. Grella scored five times in the fourth to help lift DU to the 20-14 win.
The Lady Chargers return to action next Thursday for their regular season finale and Senior Day against Post University on O'Brien Field.
