
#1 SEED LADY CHARGERS ADVANCE TO CACC FINALS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (5/2/24) The #1 overall seed Lady Chargers downed the #4 seed Wildcats of Wilmington University in the CACC Semifinal round to advance to the CACC Championship Finals on Sunday.
Dominican defeated the Wildcats by a score of 20-6 for their 15th overall victory of the season.
The Lady Chargers opened the game with a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and put up seven goals in the second quarter while ending the half with four unanswered goals for the 11-3 lead.
Each team scored three times including back to back goals by WILMU to cut the DU lead to 13-6. The Lady Chargers finished the third quarter with a goal to extend to a 14-6 lead before the fourth quarter.
Dominican shutout the Wildcats in the fourth quarter 6-0 on their way to the 20-6 victory.
Goalkeeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made five saves and earned her 15th victory in net.
Katie Vindigni started in goal for the Wildcats and made 17 saves but suffered the loss.
Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) each scored four goals. Grella also added team-highs in assists with four and shots with 14. Costello recorded two ground balls and three assists including her 200th of her career.
Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) and Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) each finished with a hat trick and picked up two assists. Ortiz also added five draw controls, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. DeStasio picked up two ground balls and four draw controls.
Alexa Preston (Coram, N.Y.), Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.), and Josie Lettieri (Deer Park, N.Y.) each scored two goals in the win.
Erin Carr (Wall, N.J.) recorded a team-high eight ground balls and six draw controls. Jenna Rigo (East Islip, N.Y.) picked up two ground balls and three caused turnovers including the 80th of her career which ties the all-time program record.
Ella Royer and Makenzie Stritzinger each scored two goals for the Wildcats while Amelie Gamache and Riley McQuaide each scored one goal.
Gamache recorded a team-high five draw controls while Royer picked up a team-high four ground balls and added three draw controls.
Next up for the Lady Chargers is the 2024 CACC Women's Lacrosse Championship Final against the #3 seeded Lions of Georgian Court University this Sunday at 2:00 PM on O'Brien Field.
