
LADY CHARGERS FALL TO #3 IN THE IWLCA FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE
Lakeland, Fla. (3/4/25) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team fell to the #3 ranked team in the IWLCA National Coches Poll Florida Southern College Moccasins on Berend Field in Lakeland, Fla.
The Lady Chargers fall to 1-1 overall on the season while the Moccasins improve to 4-0 overall.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz started in goal for the Lady Chargers and made five saves but suffered the loss. Rylie Rittberg made three saves in the game and recorded her fourth win on the season.
Dominican opened the scoring in the first quarter after a goal by Erica Ortiz less than two minutes into the game. Florida Southern scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead before Madelyn Grella scored a free position goal to cut the deficit to 3-2 before the end of the quarter.
Back to back goals by Caitlin Costello and Grace DeStasio gave the Lady Chargers their first lead since 1-0 at the start of the second quarter. A goal by Hanna Watson later in the quarter tied the game at 4-4 and the score would remain at halftime.
A big offensive third quarter by both teams saw eight total goals, four each side, and saw four lead changes as the quarter played out. Grella finished the scoring at the end of the quarter for her second of the game that tied the score at 8-8.
Both teams entered the final quarter tied at 8-8 and the Moccasins scored five unanswered goals to extend to a 13-8 lead. The Mocs shutout the Lady Chargers in the final frame and held DU to one shot on their way to the 13-8 victory.
Grella and Ortiz each finished the game with two goals. Ortiz also recorded three draw controls, one groundball, and one assist. DeStasio also picked up a team-high five draw controls while also adding a team-high two assists.
Josie Lettieri and Jordana Tomasetti each scored one goal. Erin Carr and Alivia Chieca each picked up a team-high three groundballs. Carr added two caused turnovers while Kaszovitz also added two caused turnovers.
The Lady Chargers return home next Thursday, March 13th when they host Assumption University on O'Brien Field at 3:30 PM.
