
STRONG SECOND HALF POWERS LADY CHARGERS OVER THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN
West Haven, Conn. (3/19/25) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team rallied from a 6-2 halftime deficit to defeat host, the University of New Haven, 11-8 this evening in non-conference action played at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
With the win the Lady Chargers improve to 4-1 overall on the season, while UNH falls to 4-2.
Senior attacker Erica Ortiz led the team with four goals in the victory.
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, Madelyn Grella, and attacker Grace DeStasio scored three goals and two assists a-piece.
Midfielder Jordana Tomasetti recorded the other Lady Charger score.
CACC Goalkepper of the Week, Kristinamarie Kaszovitz, made four saves.
Grella scored a goal in the first quarter and one in the second quarter to cut the New Haven lead to 6-2 at the intermission.
Ortiz got the scoring going in the third with a goal just 46 seconds into the period. Following a UNH score, DUNY went on a 4-0 run with back-to-back goals from DeStasio, a goal by Tomasetti with the assist to Grella and Ortiz picked up her second goal of the quarter off the pass from Grella to tie the game at 7-7.
UNH opened up the final period with a goal, but the Lady Chargers countered with four straight scores for the 11-8 win. Ortiz began the run with a goal off the pass from DeStasio and a little over two minutes later DeStasio followed with an unassisted goal. Ortiz recorded her fourth goal of the game with a little over a minute to play and Grella closed out the game with a goal off the dish from DeStasio with 26 ticks left.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Holy Family University.
